  • Right: "Estoy en Madrid" (I'm in Madrid - use EN)
  • Right: "Voy a Madrid" (I'm going to Madrid - use A)

Mistake 3: Forgetting DE with compound prepositions

  • Wrong: "Al lado la casa"

Mistake 4: Using wrong preposition for "on"

  • Can use EN or SOBRE:
  • "El libro está en la mesa" ✓
  • "El libro está sobre la mesa" ✓

Cultural Notes

📚 Addresses: In Spanish-speaking countries, addresses are often given as: "Calle [name], número [number]" (Street [name], number [number]).

🗣️ Directions: When giving directions, Spanish speakers often use landmarks: "Está cerca del banco" (It's near the bank) rather than exact addresses.

🌍 Regional Variations:

  • Distance: "cuadra" (Latin America) vs. "manzana" (Spain) for "block"
  • "Parking": "estacionamiento" (Latin America) vs. "aparcamiento" (Spain)

🏠 Building Floors: In Spain and many Latin American countries, "planta baja" (ground floor) is the first floor, and "primer piso" is the second floor!
