Shopping at Spanish-speaking markets requires bargaining skills (regatear). This lesson covers essential phrases for negotiating prices, comparing products, and making purchases.

Cultural Note: Bargaining is expected at street markets but NOT at department stores or chains.

Asking About Prices

Bargaining Phrases

Está muy caro. (It's very expensive.) Es demasiado. (It's too much.) ¿Me lo puede dejar en...? (Can you let me have it for...?) Le doy [amount]. (I'll give you [amount].) ¿No le baja? (Won't you lower it? - Mexico)

Making Purchases

Me lo llevo. (I'll take it.) Está bien, lo compro. (Okay, I'll buy it.) ¿Acepta tarjeta? (Do you accept cards?) ¿Tiene cambio? (Do you have change?)
