Many Spanish verbs require specific prepositions that don't always match English. Mastering these verb + preposition combinations (verbos con preposición) is crucial for sounding natural.

Verbs with A

Empezar a / Comenzar a (To Begin to)

Empecé a estudiar español. (I started to study Spanish.)

Aprender a (To Learn to)
