Important Color Rules

1. Gender Agreement

Most colors must match the noun's gender:

Masculine nouns:

2. Colors That Don't Change

Adjective Placement

After the Noun (Most Common)

Most adjectives come AFTER the noun in Spanish:

  • "un coche rojo" (a red car)
  • "una casa grande" (a big house)
  • "el libro interesante" (the interesting book)

Before the Noun (Special Cases)

Some adjectives can or must come before:

Common adjectives that can go before:

  • bueno/a → buen (good)
  • malo/a → mal (bad)
  • grande → gran (great)

Examples:

  • "un buen hombre" (a good man) vs. "un hombre bueno" (a good man - different emphasis)
  • "un gran libro" (a great book) vs. "un libro grande" (a big book)
  • "un mal día" (a bad day) vs. "un día malo" (a bad day)

Note: When "grande" comes before a singular noun, it becomes "gran" and means "great" rather than "big."
