When saying "in [month]":

• En enero hace frío. (In January it's cold.)
• Nací en mayo. (I was born in May.)
• Viajo en julio. (I travel in July.)

WITH Article (Sometimes)

When using the month as a subject or with adjectives:

• Enero es frío. (January is cold.) - but "El mes de enero es frío" is more common
• Me gusta el diciembre. (I like December.) - less common, usually just "Me gusta diciembre"

General Rule: Usually NO article with months!

Exception - First of the Month:

• el primero de enero (January 1st)
• el 1 de enero (also correct)
• NOT "el uno de enero"

• La clase empieza el 5 de septiembre. (Class starts September 5th.)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Mistake 1: Capitalizing months and days

• Wrong: "En Enero" or "El Lunes"
• Right: "en enero" and "el lunes"
• Months and days are NOT capitalized in Spanish!

❌ Mistake 2: Using article before months incorrectly

• Wrong: "En el enero hace frío"
• Right: "En enero hace frío"
• Usually NO article with months!
