Cultural Notes

📚 Physical Descriptions: In Spanish-speaking cultures, it's common to describe people's physical appearance openly. This isn't considered rude when done respectfully.

🗣️ Diminutives for Affection: Adding -ito/-ita to physical descriptions can make them more affectionate: "bajito/bajita" (shorty), "gordito/gordita" (chubby - affectionate).

🌍 Regional Variations:

  • "Pelo" (universal) vs "cabello" (more formal)
  • "Gafas" (Spain) vs "lentes" or "anteojos" (Latin America) for glasses
  • "Moreno/a" can mean dark-haired OR tanned depending on context

💭 Compliments: Calling someone "guapo/a" or "bonito/a" is very common and generally well-received. It's more casual than in English-speaking cultures.
